BOSTON-- The Indians outfield brought their bats to the first of four games in what could end up being a postseason preview. Cleveland toppled the Boston Red Sox on Monday night 5-4 as Melky Cabrera, Michael Brantley and Greg Allen all hit home runs to rally the Tribe offense. Corey Kluber also earned his 16th win of the year, working through some early-inning traffic. Both teams are currently cruising to their respective division titles. But even still, there was drama with nearly every pitch down the stretch of Monday night's game. Start the countdown now: only six weeks until October baseball. Here are three takeaways from the win.1. Outfield power The Indians' Zdeno Chara Jersey outfield came through in a big way at the plate on Monday night. Michael Brantley, Melky Cabrera and Greg Allen each hit a home run accounting for all five of Cleveland's runs. For just the 15th time in history, all three starting outfielders (Michael Brantley, Greg Allen, Melky Cabrera) have homered. First time Tribe has done so since April 30, 2013 vs. Philadelphia, when Brantley, Drew Stubbs and Ryan Raburn turned the trick. Ryan Milowicki (@RyanMilowicki) ">Per the club's PR, it's just the 15th time in Indians history that all three starting outfielders have homered. It's the first time it's happened since April 30, 2013 when Brantley, Drew Stubbs and Ryan Raburn each did. Down 3-0, Cabrera got the Tribe on the board in the fifth inning with a solo shot to right center. In Patrick Sharp Women Jersey the seventh, Brantley followed suit and smacked a 1-0 slider over the right center wall, scoring Francisco Lindor and tying the game, 3-3. The biggest swing of the night for Cleveland came in the seventh inning when Greg Allen hit his second home run of the year, another two-run shot to right center, giving Dylan Larkin Youth Jersey the Indians a 5-3 lead and their fifth unanswered run of the night. Not only did that homer give Cleveland the win, it also extended Greg Allen's hit streak to 13 games, the longest by an MLB rookie this season.Scroll to Continue2. Kluber vs. Porcello Corey Kluber earned the win on Monday, his 16th of the season. The ace went 7 1/3 innings, giving up three earned runs on nine hits and striking out six. Kluber got into trouble early, giving up two runs in the bottom of the first on a Xander Bogaerts RBI single with runners on second and third. In the second inning, Andrew Benintendi hit an RBI single to put Boston up Evgeny Svechnikov Youth Jersey 3-0. By the third inning, Kluber began righting the ship and eliminating traffic. By the fifth inning, he seemed to be coasting. Cleveland came into Monday with some pretty good cumulative stats against Boston starter Rick Porcello, hitting .333 (72-for-216) with 30 RBI and six homers. He earned the lo s after giving up all five runs on the three Cleveland homers in his seven innings of work.3. Ninth inning drama In the ninth inning, nearly every pitch Cody Allen threw was riveting. But in the end, he proved why he is still the team's closer even with Brad Hand on the roster. Allen threw a whopping 28 pitches in the frame as he faced six batters. After Mookie Betts doubled and Benintendi walked, Allen got a force out and pop out before Bogaerts recorded an RBI single to pull the Luke Glendening Women Jersey Red Sox to within one run. The final out of the game was made by the next batter, however, as Ian Kinsler recorded a fly out to left field. While Cody Allen has had his fair share of struggles in the the ninth inning this year, Monday once again proved that even when he runs into trouble early, he more often than not has the ability to remain even-keel as he finishes out games, limiting the damage.
The Indians experienced a rough two games against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday and Wednesday. That's why on Thursday, it was important for them to come out and try and get some momentum back before beginning a seven-day stretch out on the road. The Tribe did just that, and avoided being swept as they toppled Los Angeles, 12-5. Josh Tomlin (4-8, 5.83 ERA) picked up the win for Cleveland, pitching five innings. The bullpen also seemed to be back on track, allowing only one run for the remainder of the game. Before the Tribe heads out on the road to take on the Twins, here are three takeaways from Thursday's win.1. Plenty Of Early Run Support The bats were going early and often for the Tribe. In the first inning, they made it through their entire lineup. Francisco Joffrey Lupul Jersey Lindor got the party started, scoring on an RBI single from Jose Ramirez. Ramirez made it home after Rich Hill walked Roberto Perez with bases loaded. An RBI single from Bradley Zimmer plated Edwin Encarnacion. In the blink of an eye, the Tribe had a 3-0 lead heading into the top of the second inning. They remained on a roll offensively in the second. Ramirez notched his second RBI of the game on a double, scoring Daniel Robertson. Encarnacion would walk the parrot in the next at- Frederik Andersen Jersey bat, nailing a homer over the left field wall. As the Dodgers started to mount a comeback in the fourth and fifth innings, those five early runs would prove critical. Just as importantly, the Indians would continue to swing away and put seven more runs on the board throughout the afternoon. Throughout the course of the 2017 season, the Indians have struggled when they cant hit. When they have scored three runs or le s this year, theyve won only seven games. When they outhit their opponent, however, their record is 26-3. While the bullpen has had its difficulties over the last couple of weeks, bats going cold has been another i sue entirely. Thursday showed just what the offense is capable of when it's on.Scroll to Continue2. Response Runs Yep, another offensive takeaway. But when the bats are swinging like they were this afternoon, you really cant say enough about it. In the fourth and fifth innings, the Dodgers began to breathe new life into the game. Cody Bellinger rocked a solo homer in the fourth to get Los Angeles on the board. What followed in the fifth inning was three runs scored on three hits from the Dodgers, as Lars Eller Women Jersey Yasiel Puig drove in Joc Pederson with an RBI double, and Chris Taylor hit a two-run homer into the bullpen to close the gap to just one run. In the bottom of the fifth, after Encarnacion walked and Carlos Andrew Copp Women Jersey Santana got on base with a single, Los Angeles decided to change pitchers; so manager Terry Francona decided to pinch-hit Lonnie Chisenhall in place of Austin Jackson. Chisenhall crushed a ball over the center field wall on a wild pitch to clear the bases, and gave the Indians an 8-4 lead. Again, as run support has been an i sue in the recent weeks, these response runs showed what the Indians are capable of, and hopefully will give them some offensive momentum to go on a winning streak.3. Lonnie Baseball Chisenhall had a record-setting day for the Tribe. Of the 11 runs scored, Chisenhall drove in five after coming in to pinch hit for Jackson in the fifth inning. On top of his three-run homer to extend Cleveland's lead back out to four runs in the fifth, Chisenhall also recorded a two-run RBI single in the sixth inning. His homer was the second pinch-hit home run he's hit in 2017, and the fourth of his career. Chisenhall became just the third Indians batter since 1913 to enter as a pinch hitter and record five or more RBIs. the last player to accomplish such a feat was John Ellis in 1973. When Francona was asked why he didn't start Chisenhall, (since Michael Brantley is out on paternity leave) Francona joked, I dont know, because Im probably not very smart. The Dodgers had just fought back, you could kind of feel some of the momentum there, he said of Chisenhall's homer. Lonnie took Billy Smith Jersey a beautiful swing.

There aren't may things that can make a Dodgers fan happier than hearing Vin Scully's voice. Scully was the Dodgers play-by-play announcer for 67 years. CLEVELAND, Ohio - It was a very busy weekend in Cleveland sports as all three big teams made news in major ways, and so the minor Jahlil Okafor Jersey league teams as well. Let's get right to it. The Cavs inked a 3 year deal with the current NBA Finals MVP LeBron James. This ends what was a very non dramatic offseason for once, for the King and the Cavs. This contract for James will make him the highest paid play in the NBA and also give him the player option to opt out after year two. Clarence Weatherspoon Jersey In cool and mildly shocking news, the Lake Eries Monsters franchise announced that they will no longer be known as "Lake Erie" and instead, now be known as the Cleveland Monsters. They are coming off of a IHL Calder Cup Championship season. The Browns lost 17-11 to the Green Bay Packers in pre-season action on Friday in Green Bay. ARLINGTON, Texas As you may expect, the Texas Rangers after losing 102 games in 2021 have a lot to accomplish during the offseason. Sure, the club is in Charles Barkley Jersey a rebuild, but the Rangers are very di satisfied with the results from this season. We've heard front office leadership talk openly about being "very active" in the free agent and trade market this winter. But the currentCollective Bargaining Agreement betweenMajor League Baseball and the Players A sociation expires on December 1. Without a new CBA, the market could be put on a unofficial freeze as both clubs and players hesitate to enter into new deals until the new structure of the league is in place. But before that even happens, the Rangers have some key decisions to make regarding their 40-man roster. Clubs have to go through the 40-man crunch every offseason. There is no 60-day Injured List in the offseason, so all players that were on it need to be placed on the 40-man roster or designated for a signment. The Rangers currently have a full 40-man roster, eight players on the 60-day IL and a long list of notable prospects that are eligible to be selected in the Rule 5 draft this winter. It's still very early in the decision-making proce s, and the Rangers have until November 20 to finalize their 40-man roster before the Rule 5 draft, which always takes place on the final day of the Winter Meetings in December. For those unfamiliar with the Rule 5 draft, here's a quick rundown of the event:-For now, here's a quick look at all the players currently on the 40-man roster, 60-day IL and notable Rule 5 eligible prospects. The Rangers would likely try to keep most of the players they remove (would have to clear waivers) or try and trade them for another a set.First, let's take a look at only the 40-man and 60-day IL players. Then, we'll add a list of potential prospects to a projection of the 40-man roster at the end.Pitchers (17)A.J. They've now been surpa sed for a few other young pitchers (Alexy, Otto, Dunning, King, etc.). They may have run out of chances.Speaking of chances, both Ronald Guzmn and Willie Calhoun be out of chances. I don't think they will, but it wouldn't be the biggest surprise in the world if neither of them were on the 40-man roster by the deadline. As for Kyle Cody, the Rangers still value him. But due to his injury keeping him out until the second half of next season, they may be able to remove him from the 40-man, have him clear waivers and bring him back on a minor league deal.Remember, a Major League club can select an injured player in the Rule 5 draft, but said player has to be for a minimum of 90 days in the season following the selection. Otherwise, the same Rule 5 roster restrictions carry over into Wilt Chamberlain Jersey the following season. With Cody expected to be out until the second half of the 2022 season, that may keep him safe from the Rule 5 draft. Both Curtis Terry and Eli White could be the victims of bad luck/timing. Terry's MLB debut went about as bad as it could po sibly go, and White could see himself removed to help protect another young outfielder from the Rule 5 draft.Pitchers (5)Drew AndersonJharel CottonMike FoltynewiczJordan Lyles (free agent)Hunter WoodInfielders (3)Charlie Culberson (free agent)Brock Clarence Weatherspoon Jersey Holt (free agent)Anderson TejedaOutfielders (1)Jason MartinAnalysis: The Rangers still have club control over Drew Anderson, Mike Foltynewicz, Jharel Cotton, Hunter Wood and Jason Martin. However, there are more valuable prospects that require 40-man roster spots. The Rangers need innings, which could , but Foltynewicz failed to provide that in 2021 when the club needed it. It'll be a shock if he's with the Rangers next year.As for Anderson Tejeda, he's fallen so far down the pecking order in the organization's middle infield, he had a hard time getting regular time at Double-A Frisco well into August. It's hard to imagine him on the 40-man roster over guys like Ezequiel Duran, who was acquired in the Joey Gallo trade and is one of the top hitting prospects in the organization.Pitchers (21)A.J. Verlander declines $25M Astros option, becomes free agent November 10 sharefacebooktwitterredditlink NEW YORK (AP) Justin Verlander declined a $25 million option with the Houston Astros to become a free agent on Thursday, Jarome Iginla Jersey five days after helping the team with its second World Series title. The 39-year-old right-hander likely headed to his third Cy Young Award got his first World Series win in nine starts in Game 5 against Philadelphia. The day before that happened, he said it was too early to think about his future.Really and truly its been a hell of a ride no matter what happens, whether I stay or dont, he said. Ive really enjoyed my time with this group of guys and the city and getting to know the city.Verlander was among four players who became free agents Thursday, raising the total to 165.Verlander played for Detroit from 2005 until he was traded to the Astros in August 2017. He agreed to a $66 million contract covering 2020 and 2021, then hurt his elbow and needed Tommy John surgery. After pitching one game over the previous two seasons, Verlander became a free agent and re-signed with Houston for a $25 million, one-year deal that included the option. He went 18-4 with a major league-best 1.75 ERA in 28 starts, then was 2-0 with a 5.85 ERA in four Colorado Avalanche Jersey postseason outings. He is 244-133 with a 3.24 ERA and 3,198 strikeouts in 17 seasons.I really did enjoy kind of just talking with some teams and just kind of like hearing their philosophies and getting to talk about my philosophies with pitching and just talk baseball, he said. I didnt get the traditional come into the city and get all the pizzazz because it was a short timeframe.Several others have option decisions due later Thursday. The Dodgers bullpen has plenty of options to pick from to fill out the Opening Day roster. The over abundance of arms has created plenty of competition this spring. Normally, spring training doesn't make or break an established pitcher's role, but it sure does for the Dodgers. Especially veteran David Price.Price Mikko Rantanen Jersey 's role with the Dodgers this year is still undefined. Price's inability to consistently collect outs last Andreas Martinsen Jersey year has only created more questions about where he does and doesn't fit on the pitching staff. Last year, Price posted a 4.03 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP in 73.2 IP.In 2021, 28 of his 39 appearances came in relief but he had a slightly better ERA as a starter (3.92).It wasn't just bad luck, Price had a 4 Rene Robert Jersey .23 FIP. Meaning, his ERA could have potentially have been even higher.Wednesday evening was Price's first time pitching in this spring and he brought a surprising amount of velocity. According to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya, Erik Johnson Jersey Price was touching 93 miles per hour with his heater.Scroll to ContinueLast year, Price averaged 93.0 mph on the nose with his fastball. His spring showing is significant because Price has been losing velocity on his fastball year over year. Which is natural after you've thrown more than 2100 innings in the majors. It's also noteworthy because Price is another Dodgers pitcher who isn't quite built up yet Teemu Selanne Jersey for the start of the season. He's likely to be used as a one-inning reliever most of the time, but it wouldn't be out of the ordinary for Price's role to change.
ARLINGTON, Texas Baseball fans outside of Houston love to hate Carlos Correa. When the Astros made their first trip to Globe Life Field this season, Texas Rangers fans had their first crack at showering him with boos and jeers and they did not disappoint. And this week, Los Angeles Dodgers fans finally had their first opportunity to chant "CHEATER! CHEATER!" at him and the rest of the Astros since Major League Baseball punished them for their sign-stealing scandal that aided them throughout the 2017 regular season and postseason, defeating the Dodgers in the World Series. But even amidst the fury from the Dodgers faithful this week, Correa came through for his team. He reached base three times in two games, including a 405-foot blast off Dodgers reliever Joe Kelly, who has played an on-field part in giving the Astros guilt for cheating.I'm not completely up to date in the Modern Vernacular column, but that's what I would call a dude.I know what you're probably thinking.Well, gird yourself for a blood-boiling statement: The Texas Rangers should go all in on signing Carlos Correa this winter. Now, before you click away or block me on Twitter, spare just a few minutes and hear me out.First, Milwaukee Bucks Jersey let's set this up. The Rangers are rebuilding. Why go after big money free agents? The Rangers have made a flurry of moves over the past several months to offload financial commitments and now only have $6 million committed to the payroll past 2022. In addition, general manager Chris Young and president of baseball operations Jon Daniels have both publicly said the club plans to be players in free agency.Daniels has also said that 2023 is a for being able to compete again. With the books wide open, the Rangers could afford to start going after big fish right away, especially if they believe they won't begin competing until after next season.Among the big fish this winter are four outstanding shortstops: Correa, Colorado's Trevor Story, the Dodgers' Corey Seager and the Mets' Javier Bez. The name that Rangers fans have longed for is Story. And in a lot of ways, it makes sense. Spencer Hawes Jersey He's a Dallas-Fort Worth native. He's a two-time All-Star. And of the four shortstops, he has the highest career OPS.Scroll to ContinueThere are some factors to consider. First, let's take Seager and Bez out of the equation. The Rangers likely aren't going to outbid the Dodgers for Seager and Bez is not in the same tier as Correa or Story.Second, when you look at the overall body of work, Correa provides more upside than Story. Correa is only 26 year old and two years younger than Story. When Correa is healthy, he's an elite player. He's also a better defender. Then, you have to worry about the potential drop off as Story moves away from playing in a hitter's paradise at Coors Field (.972 career OPS at home, .747 on the road). Of Jason Terry Jersey course, other star players have moved on from Colorado and performed fine, so Story could do very well wherever he signs this winter. But this is where Correa might make up the difference. Let's chalk it up and say, when healthy, the trade off between Correa and Story in terms of performance is minuscule. Correa not only has familiarity with the American League West division, he might have a bigger impact in the clubhouse.Like it or not, Correa would bring valuable postseason experience with him. He's won lost a World Series. And Correa was not just along for the ride in any of Houston's postseason runs. He was a leader among those teams. You can disagree with Correa defending his teammates during the fallout of the sign-stealing scandal. A championship team needs to have players that defend the guys in the clubhouse. In addition, he carries that same attitude onto the field. He plays with an edge and leads by example while not being afraid to be vocal. That's the kind of guy players like to play with.Another way Correa could have a huge impact on the guys around him also comes from experience one that may hit home with the franchise. Next season, more of the Rangers prospects will take the next step toward becoming part of the equation. Top prospect Josh Jung will be in Arlington at some point. Sam Huff will likely return. Justin Foscue could fast track his way there if he continues to mash Ray Allen Jersey the ball. Cole Winn could make his big league debut. Jack Leiter could be in the plans for 2023. The list goes on and on.There is a lot of hope in this crop of players in the Rangers farm system right now, especially the guys at Double-A Frisco. The Rangers are in full-blown rebuild mode, selling veterans at their highest value for prospects and drafting near the top of the board. The organization is relying on Jung, Huff, Foscue, Winn, Leiter and other prospects to form a contending core in Arlington.Correa was once part of the hope for the future in Houston. He was the No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft, becoming part of the core the Astros built to become a perennial postseason team. He's dealt with the Greg Monroe Jersey pre sure of being relied upon to help save a franchise, so to speak. That experience could be invaluable to the Rangers young core.Asking Rangers fans to forgive and forget is a tall order. What Correa and the rest of the 2017 Houston Astros did deserved a severe punishment, and the lack of player suspensions from the Commi sioner's Office only poured gas on the fire. The Astros deserve the backlash they are receiving this year since fans weren't permitted in ballparks last season. But if the Rangers were to unload around $200 million on Correa and make him and part of the core for at least the next several seasons, it would mark the beginning stages of contention. No, they wouldn't quite be ready next season. But it would be a signal to the league and fans alike they mean busine s and they're not too far away.It would also be a huge move to help close that ugly chapter in baseball history.More From SI's :
