Curling Synthetic Braiding Hair: Some Pointers. from ndpetrify4's blog

Because of the nature of synthetic hair, traditional methods of curling fail when used on it. Using a curling iron or a flatiron will cause it to melt on contact with the iron. The braids can be put on rollers overnight to curl, but this method may take longer to work than with human hair, and it may not work at all in some instances.

After wearing them, I spritz them with the Beauty Mark leave-in conditioner and gently comb them through with my wide tooth comb, giving it a slight shake before putting them back on the wig stand. That usually gets the job done for me.

I've recently returned to wearing my hair in a longer style. Until I discovered the benefits of using low-temperature heat tools and steaming. That does take care of the problem, and I am now able to wear longer wigs as well.

I'm extremely cautious when it comes to my longer units. I try not to pair them with heavy wool sweaters when I can help it. The smallest amount of trimming is done when the ends become extremely frazzled.

In addition, I discovered the Pattis Pearls YouTube videos, which has led me to use the steamer, which is extremely effective but results in dead straight hair. I wear Jon Renau Zara, so after steaming it straight, I turn my wig inside out and gently twist the long length into a coil, which is very similar to how it looked when it was first put in the box, lay it down flat, and then run the steam over the wig to set it in place. I leave my hair like this overnight, and the next morning my Zara has regained its movement.

I believe that twirling it and laying it flat, and then applying the steamer to it, should also be effective methods.
