Why shares of this plus-size women's clothing brand are going haywire on its IPO day

Plus-size women's apparel retailer Torrid is a sister brand to Hot Topic no longer, and investors appear to like what they see inside the newly minted public company. Get more news about cheap Plus Size Dresses for women, you can vist 5xsize.com!

On Thursday, Torrid debuted on the New York Stock Exchange under the clever ticker symbol 'CURV.' It marked a rare public listing for a specialty apparel retailer, no less one that serves a severely under-represented corner of the market (plus-size women's clothes). Torrid shares surged more than 20% in early afternoon trading. Torrid had long been part of edgy specialty apparel retailer Hot Topic. Hot Topic was acquired by private equity shop Sycamore Partners for $600 million in 2013. Torrid then branched out from Hot Topic in 2015.

The brand's store base has swelled to 608 locations compared to about 230 at the time of the Sycamore deal. About 70% of Torrid's sales are done online, easily more than double the percentage seen at other sizable specialty apparel retailers.

Torrid’s valuation alone based on its IPO pricing was $2.3 billion. The company's market valuation stands at roughly $2.5 billion based on today's IPO day pop.

Talk about PE unlocking value.

"I think we are by far the most ignored and underserved customer in the apparel industry," Torrid CEO Liz Munoz said on Yahoo Finance Live. "I don't know that people fully understand what needs to be done. Fit is incredibly important, and that skill doesn't really exist in a lot of places."Munoz — a long-time designer — takes pride in how Torrid creates its clothes (they are fitted on Torrid employees, not mannequins) to ensure proper fit and how it uses data to understand its shoppers.

Kickstarter for women’s plus-size outdoor apparel raises $50K

Raquel Vélez had never been an outdoorsy kid growing up. She said she was more likely to be found “with my nose stuck in a book.”The problem, though, was that as a size 16, Vélez had trouble finding the right gear. Most outdoor apparel brands, such as Columbia and Patagonia, offer a very limited selection of ski pants sizes ranging from 12 to 22 for plus-size women.Get more news about plus size womens clothing, you can vist 5xsize.com!

But the average weight of women over 20 is 170 pounds in the U.S, according to a 2018 study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and 68 percent of American women wear a size 14 or larger, market research firm Plunkett Research estimated in 2016.

“I learned how to ski in sweatpants under rain pants and a hoodie under a coat because that’s what I had,” Vélez said. “But when I was ready to upgrade, nothing fit.”

Around the same time she was learning to ski, the Denver resident also learned to sew. She said she was tired of buying jeans that never fit, and attended a pattern-making school to learn how to make her own.

During her time there in 2018, she took a course on the history of fashion and brand development. She was assigned to create a clothing brand with an eight-piece apparel line. That’s when she came up with the idea for Alpine Parrot, an outdoor apparel company for plus-size women.

“Outdoor brands don’t show people of size in any of their advertising. So, it makes you think, ‘Oh, I’m just the weirdo who likes to ski and doesn’t fit into anything,’” Vélez said. “And this creates a whole chicken before the egg problem where because people don’t see plus-size people being represented in the industry, they don’t think they exist.”But in my research, I found so many communities of people online who might be bigger but love going outdoors, whether for skiing, white water rafting, hiking or fishing, and can’t find any gear that fits them. So, I knew there was this untapped market.”

Last month, she launched Alpine Parrot’s first product, a pair of plus-size women’s hiking pants called Ponderosa Pants, through a Kickstarter campaign. In the first three hours, she reached her $10,000 goal and doubled it in eight hours. As of Tuesday, she has raised $52,139 from 429 backers. In the next two days of the campaign, she hopes to hit $60,000.

“I wanted to use Kickstarter to send a message to the outdoor industry in a public way, since they often neglect people of size and color, and show big name brands that customers like me do exist,” Vélez said. “And I think our message has been sent loud and clear, so it will be interesting to see how brands respond. I’m starting where other people are just trying to catch up.”

The Ponderosa Pants, which retail for $139 on Alpine Parrot’s website, range from size 14 to size 24 and come in sage green and slate gray. They are made with quick-drying, abrasion-resistant UPF-40 fabric and feature a built-in belt, five pockets, an adjustable cuff to convert them into capris and a carabiner loop.

“Although I had initially wanted to make ski pants, I decided to first launch hiking pants because the ski industry is super tiny compared to the general outdoors industry,” Vélez said.

The Ponderosa Pants also come in two fit styles, the “Mountain fit” and the “River fit.” The Mountain fit is best for bodies with a smaller waist than hips, while the River fit is best for those with similar waist and hip measurements, she said.

EVERYTHING CHANGING IN THE WOW CLASSIC TBC PRE-PATCH

While we don’t know the full extent of the changes Blizzard has planned for TBC Classic, we know what’s coming and changing for Classic with the pre-patch. In this guide, we’ll list many of the major changes coming to the game.To get more news about buying wow gold, you can visit lootwowgold official website.

One of the most anticipated changes for the pre-patch is the new talents and skills coming to most classes. It’s fair to say that some specs don’t quite feel ready in Classic, and, for the most part, TBC fixes a lot of those issues. For the pre-patch, every spec will get another two rows of talents in each tree, with most gaining a new final skill and improvements to the previous end talent.

Above are two examples of this for Paladins (for Horde players this is all new so get doubly excited). In the Protection Paladin tree, you’ll see Paladin’s gain one of their most iconic abilities, Avenger’s Shield. Finally, after two years of body pulling mobs Paladins are finally able to pull in style. The other new addition is the Classic end of row spells getting an improved version. Above is an example for Paladins, Holy Shield was vital to Paladin tanking in Classic, and the improved version in TBC is only going to cement the class as a key player in any dungeon group.
It’s finally the time for Paladins and Shamans to cross the faction lines. With the introduction of Blood Elfs and Draenei (more on them next), both factions are finally able to experience the other side’s secret weapon. While it was always a fun gimmick through Classic, it probably left the faction war slightly lopsided.

While Shamans were, and still remain a strong class, Paladins gave the Alliance access to another tanking class, something sorely lacking in Classic. Their inclusion is limited to just the new factions, they’ll no doubt have a major impact on the meta. One major change for TBC Classic from its original is that Alliance and Horde Paladins will both have access to each faction Seal spells. In a slightly controversial call back when TBC was released, each faction was given a faction-specific Seal. For the Horde that was Seal of Blood (shown above), for the Alliance Seal of Vengeance. While they both look fine on paper, Seal of Blood was around 15% strong for pure DPS, making Horde Paladins the far superior option. Note that Seal of Blood is called Seal of the Martyr for Alliance Paladins.

TBC finally gave each faction what it was looking for most. A new race that looked like it fit better on the opposite faction. Horde gains the pretty and self-important Blood Elfs, while Alliance gains the space cow race, Draenei. For a lot of people, these two races were what made them join their friends. Many Horde players finally had a way to convince friends to join them now that the Horde had a “pretty” race. While the Alliance finally had a hulking giant on their side (at least the male Draenei).

The good news for those looking to join the TBC party is that both races will come to the game in the pre-patch, and not at the TBC launch like they did back when it was released. It looks like Blizzard has learned that people want to play with their friends as soon as possible. Rather than spend an expansion launch leveling from level 1 to 60 to catch up.

WoW Shadowlands: Which Covenant Your Class Would ACTUALLY Choose

Covenants are one of the most important features that were added in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, and choosing the right one is a difficult task. All four of Shadowlands' covenants have unique abilities and benefits, meaning that there is an argument for every single choice. Although plenty of players are making their covenant choice based on what abilities are ideal for raiding and other end game content, others can make the decision based off of how the lore and fantasy of the covenant fits their class. To get more news about buy wow gold safe, you can visit lootwowgold official website.

Every class in World of Warcraft has all four covenants available as an option, but the abilities and lore of a class will lend itself best to a specific covenant. The leveling experience in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands allows players to understand what each faction's specific roll is in the afterlife, and the sorts of aspirations that prospective members should have.

World of Warcraft players can, of course, roleplay their character how they wish no matter the class, but these are the combinations of Shadowlands classes and covenants that, in general, make the most sense from a lore perspective.

The first discoverable covenant in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is the Kyrian, a group that resides in the idyllic world of Bastion. Kyrians are tasked with defending souls as they move through the afterlife, and their roll is held in the highest of esteem. The Kyrians allow only those with pure souls and accomplished lives to join their ranks, and require those aspirants to succeed at many trials in order to truly become and part of the order.

The most obvious class that would fit with the Kyrian requirements and aesthetic are World of Warcraft's Paladins. These holy warriors are tasked with living lives of justice, as well as giving themselves up to defend others. Most Paladins would likely seek to continue serving others in death, and working their way up as a Kyrian would accomplish just that. Other classes that would work well as kyrians include WoW: Shadowlands' Monks, a group of honorable and even-tempered fighters, as well as Holy Priests, who dedicate their life to healing others and worshipping the purity of the light.

The Necrolords, who inhabit Maldraxxus in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, serve as the army and defense force within the Shadowlands, and as such their ranks are made up of those who thirst for battle, both in life and in death. Despite the reputation that Maldraxxus might garner as an evil place, plenty of noble spirits can find a home with the Necrolords. The Necrolords of Maldraxxus value bravery above all else, and must be prepared, if called to action, to defend the Shadowlands.

The most obvious fit for Shadowlands' Necrolords are Warriors. Warriors are career soldiers that are not afraid to solve problems using their weapons. The Necrolords appreciate bravery above all else, and having a veteran of either the Alliance or Horde on their side would be welcome. Death Knights can also find a home in Maldraxxus, since they have many similar qualities to the Warrior and have shown a willingness to put themselves in danger to fight for Azeroth. They have the added benefit of controlling the undead, something that meshes well with the many necromancers that inhabit Maldraxxus.

Lastly, although they are not an exact fit, Mages may find that the powerful liches and sorcerers in Maldraxxus are worthy of their abilities. Not every fighter in World of Warcraft needs to wield a weapon, and the potent frost magic of a Mage would certainly fit the Necrolords aesthetic

Understanding Air Travel To China

The vast majority of first-time tourists from Western countries will fly into China, as opposed to overland border crossings. Also, most of these visitors will fly in and out of Beijing (PEK), Shanghai (PVG and SHA), or Hong Kong (HKG) international airports. To get more news about China travel advice, you can visit shine news official website.

Beijing International Capital Airport is by far China’s biggest and busiest airport, serving over 65 million passengers in 2009. Located about 20 miles from the city, it opened in 1999 and got a major facelift and upgrade ahead of the 2008 Olympics.

Note that Shanghai has two international airports (I wonder how many travelers miss their outgoing flights each year): Hongqiao International (SHA) is more efficient and closer to Shanghai than Pudong International (PVG), its more modern and sleeker cousin.

But to boost business investment and tourism, the Chinese government is working hard to increase and upgrade the number of international airports throughout the country. For instance, both Guangzhou (CAN) and Shenzhen (SZX) international airports — located in the south near Hong Kong— see huge volumes of air traffic (but for now mostly serve Asian cities).
5 Tips to Know Before You Fly
Flying domestic in China can be a stressful process if you don’t know what you’re doing. Most travelers enjoy the fast paced travel of the common domestic flights as opposed to the slower option in bullet trains. While China’s bullet train system may be the right fit for certain trips, let’s focus on the efficient domestic flight options. Follow our tips to streamline the experience.

1. Always Plan For Crowds
Arriving early and avoiding national holidays is the best tip to ensure you make your flight on time. The Chinese habit of never forming lines can make airports a stressful place to navigate for foreigners. Give yourself plenty of extra time to avoid any mishaps.

2. Understand & Know The Restrictions
Be sure to examine the flight restrictions online to ensure you bring only what’s allowed to the airport. Lighters, liquids, pets, and even some technological devices are banned on flights in China. Check with your airline to make sure all your goods are in compliance with the rules.

3. Have A VPN (or other way to be able to contact someone for assistance)
Internet access to popular Western sites is limited in China. If you’re worried about letting loved ones know you made your flight, make sure to have a VPN installed on your devices to access the Internet.

4. Be Aware of Cultural Differences
Understand that you are a visitor and expect things to be a little different. From a rice and fish style in-flight meal to the personal space you can expect from your in-flight neighbor, things are sure to vary from what you’re used to. Be ready for the adventure!

5. Avoid Poor Weather
Airlines in China are much more likely to ground flights due to weather than airlines in America. Don’t be surprised if a rainstorm throws off your flight plans. Traveling is all about flexibility and it’s better to be safe than sorry. You can avoid any unnecessary delays by choosing clear weather days for all your flights in China.

The Organizers Behind Two of China’s Top Art Fairs

The trio behind the Art021 and Jingart fairs in Shanghai and Beijing are expanding their franchise to Shenzhen with a new art and design fair called Shenzhen Design and Art (DNA), scheduled from September 30 to October 4.To get more art in the news 2021, you can visit shine news official website.

“Shenzhen is a migrant city, but [that] gives people the opportunity to build a new home,” Bao Yifeng, who founded Art021 in 2013 with David Chau and Kylie Ying, told the Art Newspaper, which broke the news. The founders are also looking to launch art fairs in Chengdu, the capital of southwestern China’s Sichuan province, and on the island of Hainan, China’s southernmost point, where plans to open a freeport were announced last June.

Future targets for the fledgling fair project also include Hangzhou, an hour outside Shanghai, which is home to the China Academy of Art.

The Shenzhen fair will feature 40 galleries and take place at the Shenzhen Museum of Contemporary Art and Urban Planning. It will offer a blend art and design, with four sections dedicated to galleries, design, art on paper, and “curio”: contemporary works inspired by traditional Chinese scholar objects.

The event will not coincide with the Art Shenzhen fair, founded in 2013, which takes place earlier in September. Instead, it will overlap with the National Day of the People’s Republic of China holiday on October 1, which celebrates the formal establishment of the nation in 1949.

The hope is to have international exhibitors, but with travel restrictions still in place in China, that may not be possible.

While the pandemic caused the cancellation of Jingart in 2020, Art021 was one of the first art fairs to resume in-person operations when it opened in October 2020.

This year’s edition of Jingart opens today and continues through June 13. It has 43 booths plus 13 virtual exhibitors.

Despite last year’s lockdown, China saw a reduction of only .1 percent in its fine-art auction sales year over year, according to the Artnet Intelligence Report. The nation also overtook the U.S. for the largest share of the art market of any country.

Face masks from China and US equivalent to European standards

A great deal of personal protective equipment is needed to keep healthcare professionals safe while caring for corona patients. The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) has set up the National Consortium for Medical Devices (LCH) in order to centralise the procurement and distribution of this scarce equipment to ensure availability. The LCH procures personal protective equipment and medical devices that are in danger of running out.To get more news about mask supplier, you can visit tnkme.com official website.

Prior to distribution via the LCH, RIVM carries out random quality tests to demonstrate whether the masks that do not carry the CE mark provide the correct protection. The most important aspect is to determine whether the mask in question is effective enough at preventing the entry of particles. An assessment is, moreover, made of whether products are well packaged, are sound, that the marks are correct and that the expiry date has not been exceeded.
A manufacturer can determine the intended use of a product and can market face masks as personal protective equipment and/or as medical devices. The IGJ supervises medical devices in accordance with Directive 93/42/EEC. The SZW Inspectorate is the market regulator for personal protective equipment (Regulation (EU) 2016/425).

The IGJ is allowing manufacturers to deliver medical devices, such as surgical face masks, without a CE mark at the explicit request of care providers if there are insurmountable shortages due to the coronavirus. Besides, the IGJ allows the LCH to supply surgical face masks not complying with the relevant regulation.

The inspectorate SZW is temporarily allowing the marketing of personal protective equipment, such as FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3 face masks, that are not CE marked but that demonstrably meet the safety and health requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 solely for the use of healthcare professionals. Information on this is given on the page on product safety and certification.

European countries mandate medical-grade masks over homemade cloth face coverings

Confronting new, more transmissible variants of the coronavirus and a winter spike in infections, a number of European countries are beginning to make medical-grade face masks mandatory in the hope that they can slow the spread of the disease. To get more news about surgical mask supplier, you can visit tnkme.com official website.

The French government has now mandated that citizens wear single-use surgical FFP1 masks, more protective FFP2 filtering facepiece respirators or fabric masks which meet the same “Category 1” specifications — blocking more than 90% of particles — in all public places. In layman’s terms, homemade masks will no longer cut it.

It follows a decision by the German government on Tuesday requiring all people to wear either FFP1 or FFP2 masks while on public transport, in workplaces and in shops. The move came after the German state of Bavaria introduced an even more stringent measure: Enforcing surgical grade N95 respirators, which filter 95% of air particles, in stores and on public transport.German Chancellor Angela Merkel cited the spread of new coronavirus variants, which were first detected in the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil, as the reason for stricter requirements. “I urge people to take this seriously. Otherwise it is difficult to prevent a third wave,” Merkel told journalists in Berlin on Thursday, adding that a video summit of European Union leaders would be focused squarely on ways to counter the spread of variants on the continent.

During the Thursday summit, EU leaders weighed tougher border restrictions to limit non-essential travel and agreed to a common framework for rapid testing, but mask-wearing was not discussed.

The European Center for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) warned Thursday that new variants of the coronavirus could cause more hospitalizations and deaths across Europe, urging countries to start taking extra measures — from physical distancing, to quarantining and contact tracing — immediately. The ECDC currently recommends face masks in indoor and outdoor situations when physical distancing cannot be guaranteed, but does not specify what type of face covering should be used.

Meanwhile, in Britain, where a highly-contagious coronavirus mutation is driving a deadly third wave of the virus, medical-grade masks have not been mandated in public. Instead, face coverings are required on public transport, in shops and in other indoor settings where social distancing may be difficult.

In the UK government’s Covid guidance, scarves and bandanas are considered to be appropriate face coverings, despite evidence they do not effectively block respiratory droplets emitted by the wearer.

Faced with more transmissible variants, some scientists say that the focus should be on limiting the amount of viral aerosol exposure as much as possible — and recent studies suggest the best way to do that is through medical-grade masks, in addition to other public health measures.

Unlike fabric and surgical masks, which protect other people from larger respiratory droplets emitted when speaking, coughing or sneezing — in other words, outflowing air — FFP masks protect the wearer by filtering both the outflow and inflow of air. They can also provide some level of protection against smaller droplets, or aerosols. When fitted correctly, FFP2 masks can filter at least 94% of particles.

And while the tight weave of surgical masks offer a high level of outflowing protection — which is why they’re used by medical professionals around patients — cloth masks are more hit or miss. Their efficacy depends on the number of layers of fabric and the type of fabric used — most don’t have any sort of safety rating.
Guidance on cloth masks, issued during the first wave of the pandemic when less was known about how Covid-19 could spread through aerosols and supplies of medical-grade masks were precarious, are now being reassessed.

The new recommendations in Europe come after supplies of medical masks have increased, following initial fears there wouldn’t be enough for frontline workers. But there are still questions over supply chain disruptions.

Cloth masks are still considered to be better than wearing no mask at all, but France’s health advisory council on Monday argued they may not offer sufficient protection against new variants.
