A mishap with one of FIFA 23's"Hero" packs been quite expensive after a tradeable FIFA Ultimate Team Hero item was placed on FIFA's transfer marketplace for very low prices. The chaos ensued when players tried to sell their items when their value dropped, seeking to recover loss as the market inundated.
FUT Hero Items are very rare and thus valuable. They are each associated with a player who has made an important contribution to their team or is a fan favourite for any reason. The Hero item can go for hundreds of millions FUT coins in a single transaction on the virtual transfer market or by purchasing packs. However, there is a very slim likelihood of getting one.
So when EA misjudgedly released a bundle with a trading Hero item for the low-low price of 25,000 FUT coins the market was struck by an influx of cheap Heroes, causing it to plummet and wipe out the supposed value of the more rare items. The players who had held onto rare Heroes began selling them off after they witnessed prices drop that put fuel on the flames. This is understandable, though, considering more rare Hero items can fetch hundreds of dollars in real-world value when sold through third-party platforms.
The error has now been rectified The pack is now available for about 25 minutes but the damage has been done. EA has not yet made a comment on the issue, and even though the market has started to rebound, the loss seems to be irreversible, and it remains to be seen what EA will do to rectify the situation.
